Magic
I’m feeling very Christmassy.
All the presents are now bought, and 90% of them wrapped. Work is (finally) slowing down after a somewhat mammoth month, and even though I have very few days off over Christmas and New Year, the working days won’t be anything like normal.
Tonight the Queens Of Noize gave me their present – a suprise trip to the National Film Theatre to see the beautiful new digitally remastered Wizard Of Oz. Amazing. Lovely. Silly. Funny. And much shorter than we all remembered.
It really is stunningly beautiful with the colours even brighter now than I remember them being in the first place. I’m also staggered that it was made in 1939!! Now you can see it all so clearly it’s even more staggering to think that the oh-so-perfect costumes are from that long ago.
Coming out of the cinema into the icy cold river-side air was great. We lost the fight to skip, Dorothy style, along the river to Giraffe.

A quote I found today that resonated a LOT. “[It's not long] before we finish with the contents of 2006, screw them up in a ball, toss them in the air and drop-kick them into the waste-paper basket in the corner.”
I, for one, will be happy to see the end of 2006. It’s been a toughy for a lot of people I know and love, including me. I also have REALLY good feelings about 2007. I think dreams are going to come true…
In light of all this I have some lyrics, from one of my favourite Christmas songs, from the Maybe This Christmas compilation. It’s by Dan Wilson (who is in semi-sonic).
What a year for a new year
We need it like we needed life I guess
Last one left us lying in a mess
What a year for a new year
What a night for a sunrise
And we thought the dark would never end
Reaching out to try to find a friend
What a night for a sunrise
Sunrise
What a day for new day
And our star shines like a miracle
And our world is almost beautiful again
What a day for a new day
New day
What a year for a new year
What a night for a sunrise
And we thought the dark would never end
Reaching out to try to find a friend
What a night for a sunrise
Sunrise
Soon we’ll be lying in our beds
And new dreams will fill our heads
And the old ones will be ended
Hope we’ll forget about this place
Let it go without a trace
Wipe the teardrops from our faces
Oh! What a year for a new year!
You can download the song from Dan’s website. Do it!

I’ll drink to that…Here’s to 2007!!!
i liked it so much i borrowed it for my blog – hpoe that’s ok, thanks jude
It’s like rolling down a big freshly snow covered hill and ending up in a warm bed at the bottom. Or something. Love it.
thanks for posting this song, buddy. It feels so true tonight. Happy, Healthy 2007!
[...] What a year for a new year – sings Dan Wilson of Semi-sonic fame (I’m now blatently stealing from Jude). Go and check out the lyrics on her blog (she’s got a link to a site you can download the song from – which I recommend, it’s wonderful). I happily resound with the lyrics he has written. I hope I remember last year with a benign fondness – not wanting it back, but treasuring it for what it was. [...]
[...] for it to be; even if it means another roller coaster of a year is ahead. Last year I posted a link to Jude’s blog which once again sums up my feelings as I head into the unknown abyss. Once again, scroll down, [...]
