It’s a tough gig when the crowd only know a couple of songs, but they more than carried it. You could see the sea of industry-esque nodding heads were just itching to be jumping up and down, but didn’t feel secure enough to do it. Those at the front didn’t seem to mind.

The sound of the band went from T-Rex, to The Travelling Willburies, to Suzy Quatro, to Deep Purple in as many songs. The musicianship is remarkable; it must be great for Jack to work with such an AWESOME drummer (Meg has style and class, but this fella is incredible), and Mr White’s guitar solos were breathtaking. They were so good it was hard to take them seriously – nobody *does* wailing solos like that anymore and they were so perfectly executed it felt like an imitation… a bit Spinal Tap… and that’s not fair.

All in all – can’t wait for the album.

(a couple of notverygood pics from last night on Flickr too…)

* EDIT: But Ian’s pics on Flickr are great! *

    down at t’front *was* good… :-) have a look…
mind you, the nutter next to me having whole body spasms every time Mr White played a solo nearly took down about half a dozen people…

That drummer is named Patrick Keeler and he is from the band the Greenhorns who are pretty kick arse garage band themselves, though with not the notoriety of Jack’s other gig. I just recently heard a couple of songs by them and am really juiced up to hear the rest of it.

I have been a fan of Brendan Benson as well for some time now and seeing all these parts come together to form the Raconteur’s, gave me some hope that rock and roll will live……..

Just a bit jealous that you got to see them….
