MLK Day 11.50pm
It’s the 3rd MLK day I’ve been in the States for. The other times I’ve marched, today I ate pancakes with the most fabulously diverse bunch of people I’ve ever met. Class, income, race, age; all areas were covered and mixed up in a big house with their shoes off, eating pankaces and waffles, and watching a documentary on Rosa Parks. We may not have been “down in Alabama” but there was hand-holding, and it was good.
It’s seriously cold. Sarah described it yesterday as *shake fist at sky* “Why God?” cold. My jacket isn’t warm enough and the heating is only working in a couple of rooms in my cottage. Luckily the real-fire-you-start-with-a-switch is right as rain and warming my toes before the dash to bed.
Tonight we heard songs from the first half of the performing students on the programme (half major in performance, the other in music business) that Sarah & dave are teaching on. All did really well in nerve-wracking situations, but a couple stood out as Ones To Watch. I may have witnessed an early performance by an important new voice in folk music – that is I’ve never seen anyone cover Creep before in a manner that’s made me want to pound the floor with my fists and yell “THANK YOU!”.
Well I finished the last peice of writing I needed to do for work about 20 minutes ago. The holiday really starts here.
oh – pictures soon. I found my old digi-camera but it’s slow and not very good so it’s taking a while. bare with me.
