Burlesque
I hoiked this weekend’s cold over to Bethnal Green this evening to the Hip Hip Club, where the lovely Miss Z was performing for the first time in public.
I really should have made more of an effort to be honest, as most people there were suitably dressed with hats, netting, ties, fish-nets and stilettoes, basques and even masks. I hid at the back in my 6 year-old Paul Frank T-shirt and waited with Tash for the floor show to begin.
Z was in a troupe called either The Teas-maids, or The Tease-maids – the double entendre works both ways I guess – which consisted of 7 girls, none of whom had danced before. I think at least half the crowd were family and friends; Tash and I were half of Z’s cheering squad – others had unsurprisingly chickened out of seeing her in the almost-alltogether. I had no qualms at all!
The girls were amazing. Slick, but still marvellously amateur, and they all looked gorgeous in their matching, different-coloured outfits. What legs! I may be biased but Z really stole it – being the centre point of the final few minutes of the routine. I’m So So proud.
Next time I’ll get my heels out, my hair up, my Dinner Jacket on… and try not to sniff through the performance, Daaahling!
