ready… ok!

Sufjan Stephens writes wry, fragile and beautiful songs. Even though I’d been given a hint of what to expect tonight I didn’t expect the whole band to come on doing cartwheels and cheers.
Seven of them, all with their ‘I’ letterman shirts on – Sufjan Stephens And The Illinoise-makers.

For the first half of the set each song had a cheer that went with it; each led by Sufjan and started with “Ready… OK!”. The whole band were so into the spirit of it… in fact at one point (before Jacksonville) Sufjan made a mistake he stopped and started again with the order – “OK lets do it again, and this time with Spirit!”. When not playing the boys stood tall with their hands behind their backs, and the girls gossiped and twirled their hair.
The combinations of one of my favourite artists with parts of one of my favourite films (Bring It On… What? It’s a guilt pleasure ok?) and the fact that, by some unbelievable miracle, I was seated in the front row made it one of the gigs of a lifetime.
I heard a rumour he’s back before the end of the year with an Orchestra. Wow.

I saw the same show in New York…amazing. He broke the record for selling out the Bowery Ballroom 5 nights in a row…..
I forgot to add….did he have the canary yellow grand piano in the middle of the stage there too?
That all sounds pretty crazy!
enanbird!
I’m afraid it was a regular black piano… I guess it’s expensive to travel with the yeller one!
So how is the head now?
enanbird! how i miss thee.
jude! where the fuck are you? where are my yayas? i have news. (not pregant though.)
