2 out of 3 ain’t bad…
… as the great prophet Meatloaf once said.
After work Lammo, Jacqs and I met up with the legend that is Plugger Kev for a lightning tour of london venues. A swifty in The Ship then off to The Water Rats in Kings Cross to see the creators of one of Steve’s favourite demos in ages, The Early Years.
They’ve got an epic noise for a three-piece with no bass player, and a bellyfull of potential. We couldn’t stay for the whole set, but I was pretty impressed with what we did see, and the final track before we left (no idea what any of them were called of course, but it was a bit faster and more of a song that a sweeping soundscape) stayed with me in my head for a while. Good sign.
Then on to Lock 17, formerly Dingwalls, in Camden for Clor. Love & Pain is a fantastic single that’s been getting better and better with each listen. How enormously dissappointing to find that they don’t really have another one to follow it up with. I hope to have my mind changed as they’ve got a great and individual sound. The lead singer also has more than a touch of the John Powers about him (The La’s/Cast) and that can’t be bad.
There was the possibility of The Magic Numbers at The Forum to end the night, but I had to come home. I have a feeling I’m going to be sticking my fingers in my ears ans singing loudly to myself all day, as everyone goes on about how great they were.
