battery let down
I went to an amzing gig last night, Hard-Fi and Boy Kill Boy, at the 100 Club on Oxford St.
I was also right near the front, and could have got some incredible picutres… but the battery on my phone was dead. Bugger.
I’ve known Rich, the lead singer of Hard-Fi, for years now (Blimey! 13 years!) and it’s so exciting and bizarre to see it finally happnening for him. Last night felt like an event gig; all the right people were there and I’d be surprised if we got to see the band in such a small venue for a while.
It was also a bit of a time-warp. wwalking to the bar I bumped into his brother and best mates, with two girls that used to come to the Indie Night Rich ran in Kingston “Club Fud”, then back towards the stage was James The Film-Maker who would do the visuals for Fud (mainly some cool lights and projecting Jaws and Star Wars on the walls). I haven’t seen any of them since about 1996 so it was really quite bizarre.
Anyway – both the bands were amazing. Boy Kill Boy were a genuine delight – tight as anything and with a massive sound and great songs to go with it. Conor from the NME was stood in front of me and said that he loved them because “they’re almost totally gimick-less” and he’s right – just great songs, a great look, a charismatic front man… the package.
Hard-Fi are a band on top of their game. All of them know exactly what they’re doing and do it brilliantly. They get more and more confident and sound better each time I’ve seen them, and I LOVE the songs; there was much shouting along and waving of arms/pint glasses to be had.
Buy the single. Tied Up Too Tight It’s great.
